Arise Trans(forming) Lives Community Centre in Bangalore, launched by Solidarity Foundation in collaboration with Dr SafeHands in March 2020, has a dedicated team of queer friendly clinical psychologists and psychiatrists offering free, professional mental health support in English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. The centre also serves as a safe space for the LGBTIAQ+ community in Bangalore and can be reached out to for on-call counselling services as well. The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) working on the health & human rights of LGBTQ since 1994. Through targeted HIV interventions, they currently, reach out to 7500 Gay identified, Men, Having Sex with Men (MSM) and TG/Hijra communities in Mumbai every year through its outreach work on physical sites, and over 9000 users through social media and online programs. They undertake numerous advocacy activities focussed on LGBTQ rights, including sensitization and awareness of employers, educational institutes, law enforcement agencies, and government bodies, staging and reading of LGBTQ themed plays, organizing activities and mobilizing the community around LGBTQ-focussed events like World AIDS Day, Pride marches, International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). They build capacities of other CBOs in 27 Indian states on HIV prevention, treatment, care and support and advocacy for LGBTQ rights. “KHEM” is ATHI’s Social Arm that aims to address the social aspects by advocating for equal opportunities and rights for transgender persons and gender diverse individuals permitting them to live with dignity and enjoy all privileges as bestowed by the constitution. Whereas the “Indian Professional Association for Transgender Health(IPATH)” is ATHI’s Professional Arm which seeks to further the understanding of gender incongruence, propagate gender affirmative care and evidence-based management of gender dysphoria by providing a platform for professionals from various sub-specialities of medicine, surgery, paramedical sciences, nursing and social sciences to collaborate with each other for advocacy, research and continuing education in this evolving field of Transgender Healthcare. ATHI seeks to promote an India-centric, ethical, standardized, accessible and affordable, holistic public health approach to Gender Incongruence.
